Ira Weinschel is a photographer/musician living in Austin, TX who finds inspiration in fire, large-scale art and things that go ‘boosh’. His work wanders the line between documentary and fine art, capturing the mood as well as the moment with vivid colors and subtle detail.
“Prague Restoration” — In Progress
An ongoing project documenting the restoration and reconstruction of Prague after the fall of Communism. Spanning over 20 years, the project will culminate with a book of photos taken in present-day Prague alongside images shot in 1994, shortly after the Czech Republic’s emergence as an independent nation.
“Joy” — 2010
Crew photographer for an art installation made up of multiple swing-sets that used motion sensors, sound and programmed lighting to produce a unique interactive experience. Designed and installed by WinWinCreative at the Coachella Festival in Indio, CA.
“The Fire of Fires” — 2009
Long-term project documenting the six-month build process of “The Fire of Fires”, a 3-story temporary structure built in Austin and installed in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert for the 2009 Burning Man Festival. Documentation tasks included coverage of construction progress, crew portraits and photos of the structure in use by festival attendees.
“Resolution Clock” — 2008
Crew photographer for an art installation produced for the City of Austin’s New Year’s Eve festivities. A 34-foot tall wooden clock tower was assembled at Auditorium Shores and set on fire in front of a crowd of 80,000 people as the finale to the City’s First Night Parade.
